my new mk1 camper

Postby boneheaddread » Thu Jun 30, 2011 4:46 pm

Hi , well I have just gone and bought my first mk1 transit , its a high top camper 1972 2litre v4 with a knackerd camshaft fibre gear ( I think from reading this forum ) dizzy rotor arm not spinning , nor fuel pump or oil pump ????? and plenty of rust in one wing and both the door bottoms , but I love it already and I took a punt at £600 , any help on parts and what the problem may be would be much apprecated , thanks john :D

john you need to strip the front cover off of the engine to check the fibre gear ,the gear is available in steel but is expensive
dont forget to put photo,s of the mk1 on the forum

Hi , I will put some photos on when I find my USB lead?

just took the timing gear cover off and the fibre gear is mashed in one place so when the crank spins it is just mashing the camshaft gear , there also looks to be some bent pushrods , should the camwheel spin with a spanner on the front bolt?? as it wont turn at all ?? is there anything in the top end tat would sieze the camshaft ???

any ideas

thanks john

If a piston is against a valve then you wont turn the camshaft.

Yes because it has already bent the other valves.
