Odd Mk2 mirrors

Postby Luke » Thu Oct 06, 2005 7:30 pm

We have had a few topics talking about this recently, and i always thought the odd positioning of the mk2 mirrors was so they were in the correct position for viewing from the drivers seat!!

but transitgeoff said it could be to do with the sliding drivers door option!

if that is correct i am thinking of re- mounting my drivers mirror on the door - same as passangers!!!
as the van is now ready for the top coat i will have to act fast!! :D
before i fill the holes in the wing is there any reason this wont work :?:
are both mirror arms the same :?: (mine are somewere in the shed  or i would look myself)

 mate yes what geoff is saying maybe write but ,you need to check first by getting somebody to hold the mirror to the door first , i have driven many mk2,s over the years and allthough the mirrors look funny one on the door and wing they are in a great possition! i would of liked a set on the mk1 at least i could see! :D

Luke, think you might need 2 nearside mounts and arms as the standard o/s mount fits at a different height on the wing and is not right for the bodyline shape if you know what im saying  one is say concave and the other is say convex  anyway i had a couple of the mounts chromed for me mk1 and it turned out they were both n/s when i went to fit the o/s in exactly the same place on the wing as a mk2 if i would have tightened it it would have pulled the wing out and disfigured it so i had to find an o/s and have it chromed lively hope that drable helped :? also the arms fit the mounts differently so i think you will need 2 n/s arms and just bolt on the o/s mirror head and i cannot see any problems :D

Thinking about it my old mk1 camper had 2 mirrors on the o/s and the door one was the one i allways used!!! :D
also im hoping to upgrade the engine so i shouldnt need the mirrors too much anyway!!!

Thats it then mirrors going on the door!! :D unless i forget before its painted!!

Postby Steve@CCR » Sun Oct 09, 2005 10:27 pm

if luke even thinks of taking that front valance off and converting back to mk1 after all that work i've put in, i'll burn that garage with the van inside!
