MK2 Axle ratio and wheel PCD

Postby doggypaddle » Tue Jul 30, 2019 11:19 pm

Finally started work on the 100L, got all the rear lights working which ended up being a new loom front to back.......rats eaten most of the old one.
anyway thats one step closer to MOT.
Thinking ahead will probably need taller gearing. will fit either overdrive box or MT75 and maybe a smaller diff ratio.
currently is 4.56, so could go 4.11 or zodiac 3.5 if i can find one.

Given that later transits MK6,7,8? seem to have some nice diff ratios, seen a few 3.9s will mk2 5 stud wheels fit on the later axles, and how do they compare for width.
Anyone fitted a MK6 axle on a MK2?

not looking forward to going down the motorway at 3500RPM :(

I just measured a Mk7 single wheel axle the other day,(should be the same as a Mk6) it is about 1830mm wideacross the flanges where the wheels bolt on. I think it will be too wide for a Mk2.

Hi just wondering if you found out if the mk2 wheels fit the mk6 axle and front hubs as I have been thinking of them myself ?

not yet.
looking at some later 5 stud wheels though they dont seem to have a taper on the stud holes.
more research required!

The later type axles have larger studs ,which means the wheels don't fit without modifications
