missing timing belt tensoining spring

Postby MBx_nl » Wed Oct 16, 2019 3:22 pm

Hi,

Iam changing the timing belt on my '79 transit mk2 1.6 but am missing a spring on the tensioning to put the timing belt under tension. Try to order one but all the replacement tension rolls sets come without a spring.

There wasnt a spring on the previous timing belt but looking a the haynes manuel there should be one.

Does any one now what to do? How should i put tension on the timing belt?

Thanks

In elder cars, just like our Transits, there was no tension spring.

You have to put tension on the belt manually and then tighten the bolt. This is how it had to be done on most of the cars in the past.
If you see the tree you will hit, it is called an understeer.
If you just hear and feel the impact, it is called oversteer.

No all Ford Pinto engines had a tensioner spring. You can buy new ones from Burton Power.

Been quite a while since I’ve worked on a pinto. But this diagram may help. Pretty sure it’s the correct engine. If not, someone will correct me.
