mk1 master cylinder/servo

Postby ventadorn » Thu Dec 26, 2019 3:27 pm

Hi I have a 1974 mk1 ex-Malta twin wheel pickup, 2.5 di fitted was originally a York. I am wondering if my master cylinder and servo are the original items, see pic. Master cylinder has been leaking and is 22mm bore. Servo has take-off for vacuum gauge though this is not essential as I don't need a gauge.
I probably need to replace the servo can I get one or will I have to send it off for re-con as there don't seem to be rebuild kits available. I do have a used triumph TR7 servo which I have not tried to fit yet due to the constant rain, looks the same but perhaps someone can tell me if it's ok to use it.

you can change the master cylinder alone if your servo is fine, but if you want to recondition the servo there are 2 companys that do it one in the south and one up north,, there has been a few servos on ebay advertised as tvr/ transit but the plunge rod on the rear was a lot shorter so no good

easy to get caught out with that as from a front picture they look the same sometimes the master will swap depending on what servos there Lockheed or bendix but bendix has its own master and that's it j and l motor spares of Rochdale lancs can rebuild any master or servo :D

Yes thanks Neil I can get this servo rebuilt of course but as my truck spent a long time out in Malta and they had a tendency to swap bits around and use what they had to hand (don't ask me how I know) I am not sure if this servo is the correct one. It might be as the brake pipes are the original steel and look unmolested, however have seen pics of mk1 or 2 engine bays where the pipes go to a block on the servo. Anyone else got a setup that looks like the photo above?

your picture looks like a Lockheed servo, the block above the servo you ve seen before was just a testing point in the system and can be removed with no effect on things,, j and l spares will recondition the servo and they also do master cylinders as well,, if your keeping the truck that's the best way as buying secondhand is a risk
