Fuel tank ventilation mk2

Postby Ford_V6 » Sat Oct 03, 2020 6:40 pm

Hi!

On my Transit I believe the tank ventilasjon doesn't work.
As it takes around 10 minutes to fill 15 litres of diesel. The filler tube fills up with diesel and I have to wait till it slowly goes into the tank.

On the picture attached, where is the ventilation located?

Thats not the vent but the return from the pump, the vent should be on the side of the filler tube.

Okay.
There is no went at the filler tube.

I've noticed that kink, but shouldn't the fuel clear that if the ventilation was okay?

What's this?
Is this where the ventilation is supposed to be connected?

Looks like you have 3 pipe connections into the tank through the sender unit. Possibly you have 2 return pipes from different parts of the fuel system plus the fuel feed.

The area the you ringed in red looks like another pipe through the sender unit which is bent over and has a cap on it. This would normally be the vent pipe.

If you can remove the sender from the tank you will see which is which. The 2 returns should have stub ends inside the tank. The vent is larger in diameter and is just attached to the sender plate so that it is at the highest part of the tank.

If you cannot connect the vent to a port at the top of the filler pipe which is the best solution then it needs to be taken to a point higher than the top of the tank (maybe about 300mm higher) , looped over and then it can be routed so that any overfill discharges to the ground in a place where it does not get on exhaust, tyres etc.
