Hi, the van has progressed, the MK5 front suspension was joined by a MK7 rear axle to give disc brakes front & rear, it now has a 2.5ltr Duratec engine mated to a 6-speed Mazda MX5 transmission, an air-con unit from a black FX4 taxi, seats from an ST-Line Fiesta.

The engine was due to arrive from the states in February but didn't arrive until the end of April, it's from the American version of the Ford Mondeo, the Ford Fusion, 175 BHP / 175 Lb/ ft torque.

The ABS perhaps on the cards, I have rear ABS rotors on the rear MK7 Transit axle, however there are no rotors on the front MK5, if I can engineer them later then yes ABS is a possibility. The first priority is to get it up & running!

Thanks for that tip Luke

If anyone out there in Transit land knows of any MK5 front hubs with ABS I'd appreciate a shout?

Thanks for the update, a lot of thought is going into the modifications.
What ABS controller would be used?

I'm using all of the electronics from an MX5, I happened upon somebody that was breaking a CAT4 MX5 auto that had only covered 15k, so I scavenged all of the harnesses, ECU's and the auto box from the same donor car. MX5 mk3 (NC) runs the Duratec engine but in 2.0ltr form.

Hello, I've now completed the steering on my van, this is the MK5 IFS with the rack rotated around (see earlier thread in the story) so that the pinion is directly beneath the floor. I've created an opening in the floor to allow the UJ's and lower column to enter the cab. I've used two Land Rover Discovery 1 / Range Rover Classic lower steering columns which include the matching UJ's part number NTC8478. One end of the shaft was welded into an original MK5 Transit lower UJ piece to join onto the rack pinion. The upper end of the shaft is welded to a UJ attached to the steering column, the column itself also has a UJ and so this reduces the operating angles involved. I sourced two pressed steel pillow blocks from Bearingboys part number LPB3/4 LDK and attached them to the bulkhead, the column shaft is supported and runs in the bearings to give a very smooth operation. The reason for using two LR Discovery lower steering columns, is that it allows me to split the system, it gave me splined shafts into splined UJ's, they're 19mm in diameter and easily sourced brand new.

The hubs themselves are easy... all hubs are machined to take the reluctor rings (part no. 6660761) - its the stub axles and sensors that are harder to get. If you find the stub axles (appears to be 1065946 and 1065954) I do have front sensors in stock
