You maybe in the wrong section I don’t think a mk1&2 had a 5 speed but there are different gear ratios for them and I think that some of the petrol gearboxes you couldn’t change the bell housing to fit them in a diesel

they only had 4 speed with overdrive , people would fit a type 9 usually when they fit a di

If I remember correctly, there are 3 different lengths of input shaft for the type 9 to suit different engines and bellhousings. The Transit type 9 with the side mounted shift was fitted to the Mk3 with the 2 litre petrol engine for a bit. This is the wrong input shaft for say a cologne V6. So if you decide to use one then you may have to change the input shaft to suit whatever engine and bellhousing you wish to use.

BGH, who rebuilt my type 9, don't like the type 9 being used in diesels as the lubrication requires higher revs to be effective. I know that there are many people that do not like the type 9 but having had the discussion with BGH, I would only use one with a petrol engine.
