Lucas CAV pump issue / alternative ?

Postby 1983ghia » Wed Aug 20, 2025 10:20 pm

Hi all,

I have a 1986 2.5 DI engine, transit undergoing resto work, CAV fuel inj pump 8520A080A is knackered and cant be reconditioned as no parts available anymore.
Ive seen a 8520A480A which i believe is a 2.5 1987-1991 pump.
Will this work with, or, without any mods ?

If anyone has access/info for these codes aswell that would be helpful.

thanks

I'm pretty sure these are essentially the same over a range of vehicles and manufactures with only subtle differences. You may have to change the drive but the innards should be the same.

You can still get parts for BMC CAV pumps and these are still in constant use in narrowboats and tractors. I recently got a kit of seals for a hydraulically governed pump and yours will be a mechanically governed pump.

What's wrong with yours?
