Lunch time :) Going well so far apart from my little toe, because a copper hammer fell off the bench on it. It’s fine, I haven’t looked at it, so it’s okay as long as I don’t inspect it. It is Shrodingers toe.
Gearbox unit is now locked in place with mig and tig. It sort of meshes with the brake frame. A rolled up bit of 1.6mm fills the gap between the Ford tube and the Easysteer one. Then mig and tig. I took the two-bolt mounting bracket off, you don’t need to. Mark everything like a mad man though, I centre dotted down the steering tube every 100mm so I can recover if I go screwey.
Of course this is the irrelavent bit, a block of wood would do the same mechanical job. The serious bit is joining the Ford shaft to the ‘who knows’ splined socket. And the splined socket needs a location screw tapping into its side. I bonked out two bits of nylon that maybe were assembly thingies?

Definitely a serious lathe and welding job :)
This part was easy to test, lock it in the vice and turn the steering wheel as hard as possible.
I made a 70mm lower tube with big holes in for the third UJ. It goes to a 17mm ‘flat sided’ and that looks okay to make and the steering box input is 17mm.

The fat bit to take the wobbly joint supplied is welded to the supplied bolt plate :)
Steel disk turned down on the lathe to adapt it to the Ford tube.
Getting the whole length right has started.
Lunch time day two.
I still need a steering shaft that is 17mm to the Ford tube. And to wire it all up.
