hi everyone
can anyone tell me if there is a company that sells rebuilt or reconditioned powersteering steeringboxes that would fit a mk2?
i have understood early mk3 ones should fit aswell.

sorry, i just havent had the time to look further into this, but it interests me also so i will watch this thread with interest, and if i find any info i'll post it, the only thing i know is what the old boy at my local commercial said, that they were somewhat unreliable and wear out fairly quickly

Postby pete_the_4x4 » Wed Dec 07, 2005 1:36 am

i have spent years looking for parts in breakers yards and in all that time i have only got four of these steering boxes i have fitted one to my mk1 all seams ok you just have to keep looking in yards you may as i have had to buy the hole van just for the box look out for mini bus thay are the ones that had most of them you will need the plate that goes on the chassis and the steering arm with ball joints keep looking
if you think my van is dirty you should see my pants

what plate, and whats the difference on the normal steering arm and ball joints ??

i had to cut out the mk3 box i got from my donor vehicle, was easier than trying to shift that dam drop arm ... pissed the scrappy off a bit that came to collect it as he had to lift it onto his waggon :D :D ... tough was my reply :P

power steering wasnt a common set up on the mk2s, a few of the county 4x4 conversions had p.s, otherwise I think you'd need to take the set up from a mk3. these arent exactly common either. been looking for one for mine for ages
