serial number on chasis? Anybody knows where to search?

Postby pjotrvox » Sun Dec 02, 2007 5:10 pm

Hi! Everyone!

It is my first time to enter the forum. Until now I was only silent observer. For a half a year I am in a project of restauration of my Ford transit MK1, 1968, made in UK wit 2,0 essex engine. Rust was removed with high preasure sanding and after it was painted with ground colour. Before we put next layers of colour, we want to find the chasis serial number.
Does anyboy have a clue, where this could be? Thank you for your time and help!

How to say... first of all thank you for reply! I´vechecked the dictionary but your description doesn´t help me. Sguare plate I have, but there should be some serial number ingraved into the chassis, like they exist on machine. For example - here is the link where german transit have it... ( http://www.transit-stammtisch.de/index.html )

I´ve screched down the arier, but no luck...

Maybe english producer put it somewhere else?!

If it is posible, can you give me more detailed description? Picture of location?

Thank you,
Peter

Hi my 1969 does not have a number stamped into the chassis anywhere, if yours is an English built it wont have it stamped or ingraved anywhere, the later ones had it on the spring hanger :D

On the later Mk1 phase2, they were in the left (our passenger side) over the spring hanger on the chassis over the wheel. It's not easy to see with all the bodywork in place!

I hope you don't see the chassis number how I see it, ours was bought accident damaged so now has no wing on it. If you remove the wheel and put your head in the wheel arch, you should be able to see it.
