front drum brake spring wanted mk1

Postby cad69 » Wed Jan 11, 2006 3:56 am

Hi

Just replaced a wheel cylinder (drum brakes) on the front of my Mk1 and found a sheared spring. These are the two springs that hold the shoes together away from the drum. Noticed that it is really brittle when I tried to bend a new hook on it (kept breaking). Anyone got a couple of spare springs? I made one out of an old deckchair :? Works well but figure I better stick with an original bit.

Cheers cad.

Think your brakes will probably be different to the ones fitted over here.

Hi

Nope. Been working out of a Transit V4 65-77 Owners Workshop Manual by Autobooks printed in England for British and Continental Transits. The brakes are identical as detailed in manual. The wheel cylinder is manufactured in the UK.

Ah, you have a single wheel, I was just going to say I have one. Will your brakes be hard to fold and unfold then?

Hi Fred

Hope they don't collapse too easily! But then it is a camper. Did you say you have a retracting spring? Front drum brakes are common to all mk1 models from what my manual says.

Cheers Cad.

I am breaking a twin wheel, won't the spring be a different size?

Every indication says that they are all the same on the front. Back brakes a different story. I'll see if I can find a measurement.

Thanks Cad
