Replacement engine for Mark 1

Hi All,

After all sorts of diagnosisis, it appears our engine may have seized. It is currently a V4 2000E and we are wondering what is the easiest and cheapest replacement? Are there any modern equilevents we could use and can we have a diesel engine if it is currently petrol?

Would be most grateful for any advice or tips,

your biggest problem is the van is designed round the V4 format - to put a 'normal' engine in will need the bullnose fitting

it is possable to fit a pinto in with the flat front but its a squieze and not a job for a novice

Again your diesel option would include the bull nose and the best bet would be a DI.

friend of mine got a 1800 turbo out of seria, still flat front, pulls ok in little pop top

Probably the same way Mark fitted the pinto with the flat front.

Surely the logical thing would be to work out if the engine has seized,if so why and can it be repaired.Try putting a 5/8 socket on the crank pulley and seeing if it will turn,if not drop the sump and have a look.

If it was mine I think I'd change the engine anyway, v4s are getting a little thin on the ground now and it has to said not the best engine. would it be worth fitting a 1.6 kent crossflow, should be able to keep the flatfront then, and plenty of uprading bits are available for it
