Looking for an air filter

[Fidde]

Hey guys!

Sorry if this issue has already been discussed and resolved, but I couldn't find a thread that answered my question. I'm looking for an air filter for my Mk1, Essex v4. The local parts dealer is really helpful, but he can't seem to find what I need. He gave me filter today which unfortunately didn't fit (too thick). The old one is completely blank as to numbers or other clues. Does anyone know the serial number to the filter I need, or perhaps someone knows of a different make that would work?

Thanks!!!

Post a picture of it with dimensions mate and I'll have a look in my stock cupboard to see if anything I have is close to it.

I might have had a break through today! When I took the lid off yesterday to put the old filter back in I saw some letters and numbers punched into the metal on the inside of the lid. I hadn't noticed the numbers before since you can't see them on the outside because of wear and dirt and what not. But on the inside they showed, reversed though, but clear to read. I wrote the number down and brought it to the friendly parts dealer today. After that it only took him a few phone calls to find the filter and order it. It should arrive tomorrow.

The serial number, in case anyone else wants to know:

ca 643 pl

By the way, thanks a lot Rover. If the filter doesn't fit tomorrow I'll post some pictures and continue the search with your help.
