In which case, it would be a good time to go for the 5 speed as well. You might as well buy a donor van, that way you would have all of the parts you want and when you are done weigh in the rest. Can I have your old pinto ?

The earlier the better, though Mk3s are getting harder to find these days. Look for 86-91, even later, I think you could even go to Mk4/early Mk5 (lots of our Mk2s have Mk5 engines). One of them has a 1998 engine, but to fit the engine as is the filter housing had to be move to down by the engine. You can just swap the inlet manifold from an older engine and have the air box on top like a petrol to avoid this. We have our overflows hanging from the brake master! Sounds bodgy I know, but it works fine and have gone through ten years of MOTs like that.

i wouldnt bother sticking a di in it could ruin it get a different box mate type9 or make an mt fit by changing a couple lof little bits

this is true, the pinto is a good engine. I have had the same engine in a LWB Mk2 for about 8 or 9 years now, after having an MT75 fitted. Where as before the engines didn't last, as they over revved and needed 5th gear on the motorway.
