Side sliding door rail removal?

Postby imustloverust » Fri Jul 18, 2008 2:29 pm

Hi everyone,
I been trying to figure out how to remove the rail and cover panel for the loading door on my mk2 camper van. I've taken the inside panels out and remove two bolts near the pillar but that's just removed the end of the rail. (sheared a bolt in the process :x ). The panel itself is getting quite rusty so I'd like to try and save it if I could.
Any pointers?
Thanks in advance,
Michael

Don't worry!
I found the screws holding the panel on. Just had to push back the insulation a little more.

Looks like it might be tough to save though!
Any where i could get these new?

Have you got a sliding side door then? Is the van LHD? I have only ever seen a sliding side door on continental vans.

Full marks, It is from holland originally. I have it in my garage now just trying to sort out a few rust patches before i pluck up the courage to attempt the front spring hangers.
I'm going to get my act together a post up a few pics tomorrow.

Dunno why we didn't get them here, probably to do with the cost of making 2 body shells.

I never realised they weren't available in our neck of the woods. It would explain why it not covered in the haynes manual!
But that also means i aint goin' to get a replacment any time soon :( .
Guess i'm going to have to restore the panel with some gentle welding and a heavy application of filler. Might be easier make one from scratch!
