Crack between two valve seats in the cylinderhead.

Postby Preiss » Fri Sep 26, 2008 9:10 am

Hi all,

The thing is when I bought my Transit MK1 the engine wasn't working properly. The compression went out in the cooling system. So I decided to screw the cylinderheads down and check what the problem was.

At first sight I saw at one cylinder the gasket was broken. So I was happy. Now later when I had cleaned the cylinderhead and removed the valves and cleaned more. I saw a small crack between inlet and exhaust valve seat. Is this ok or do I must find a replacement cylinderhead?

If so, Is there anyone here who has a cylinderhead laying around for the Essex engine?

Regards!

Hi,

I live in Sweden. I am interested in two.
My valve exhaust valve guides isn't so good on both cylinderheads. What condition is yours?

Right now I saw a guy here in Sweden who sells a V4 engine for about 82£. Maybe I should buy it and strip it down.
Is it the same cylinderheads for the 1.7 and 2.0 litres engines?

There are two types of heads fitted to ther V4,high and low compression so make sure you get the right one if you buy just a head.
A competent engine remanufacturer should be able to weld a crack in the cylinder head.V4s were known for overheating and this could crack the heads especially if a previous owner had added cold water without letting the engine cool down.
