Mk2 Cab door pins

Postby chrisvmax » Thu Sep 25, 2008 1:46 pm

Hi everyone,
I have got myself a pair of second hand doors for my Mk2 to replace the ones which are mostly made of filler! The current doors have 'dropped' a bit, am I right in thinking that this can be fixed by replacing the door hinge pins? If so, can you still get new pins? are they easy to fit?

Regards,
Chris

yes there is movement, if you grab the door when it is open you can move it up and down a bit.
As the van is 22 years old I was thinking they are probably worn.

i dont ever remember any of mine wearing on the hinge pins - but i guess life as an ambilance doesnt help

not sure how they are done but i'd imagine you can knock/drill the pins out and replace them :D

my side loading door hinges are a bit worn (they were like that when i got them from geoff so dont know the history) .... but when i cleaned them out throughly they got much worse.... so my advice is to ensure they are well greased, then adjust the hinge mountings as Luke said and it will be fine.

it's not like you go around lifting the door all the time so the upwards play you will not notice when the door is lined up properly.

I'll give it a try, the doors must need adjusting then as they take a bit too much effort to close for my liking... and to open again actually.

Thanks for the replies,
Chris

a trolley jack under the door helps (padded with a towel or similar) as its steady, better than a mate who starts laughing when it goes tits up
i started with nothing, still have most of it left

very true, as those doors can be heavier than they look, and if your mate gets tired you'll end up with it further out of adjustment than before you started !

before i get shot down i know this is a complete bodge but a trick i have used in the past with droopy doors is to open the door wedge something into the bottom hinge and then force the door shut (a bit at a time) then try the door to see if it has lifted enough the door will still move if you lift it up but how often do you lift up a door well unless you have a lambo or a delorean
okay you can now start ripping the mick out of me but i did say it was a bodge
