2.0 pinto problem

Postby mhtransit » Sun Oct 05, 2008 7:52 pm

I have a Mk2 with a 2.0 205 block pinto that came froma granada it has the Weber 2v carb on it and ESC11 ign pack with it
Recently it had a problem with starting that I eventually found was the hall effect dizzy I have replaced it with a mk3 point less dizzy and motorcraft box When it would not start I spent several days trying to get it going The oil level had risen very high and the oil had turned to like black water After running for a few minutes oil has started to leak from numereous points all round the front of the engine
Someone I know says the unignited petrol has gone into the oil and perished the oil seals I have tried draining some of the oil out but still leaks badly My question have I knackered the engine ? Or is there any hope of fixing it

Fuel pump diagphram :!: :!: :!:

With the right oil (20/50) and a new fuel pump it should be fine :D Change the oil filter too!

Thanks for your replys I think there may have been a problem with the carb as this carb has a fuel return which has been blocked off The is a fuel vapour thing but not connected It was very thirsty before it went wrong
I have a 32/36dgav on manifod from a 2lt capri on the way from Ebay This would be a better carb I think than the 2V
Even If I changed the oil, filter and maybe fuel pump as suggested would that stop all the oil leaks
I have just used the oil/petrol to light a bonfire went up like a rocket

A leaky carb wont cause THAT much fuel in the oil, like I said, fuel pump! Its a very common problem on older vehicles with mechanical pumps!

The chances are that the oil will stop leaking, its leaking now cos its so thinned down with petrol

Oh, and YES a 32/36 will be a better carb :D

OK Thanks for the advise "Rover" Before I start it again I will--

drain all the oil out and change the filter and put some cheap 20/50 in it
Leave it overnight first with the sump plug out to drain as much out as possible
I will also change the mech fuel pump for a mk 3 transit one which I know is good
Then wait till the 32/36 arrives and fit that also and see what happens then All the top cover screws on the 2V are loose they will not tighten just turn round I have fitted a couple of 4mm nuts and bolts to hold the top on but not perfect

If I look at the fuel pump removed from the engine would it be possible to see where it was leaking from ? I would imagine somewhere by the lever arm
Would a thick additive help with the seals ?

I would try it without the additive first

I doubt you will see where the pump diagphram is split as they are a sealed unit.
