v4-2.5di swap

Postby HAPPY1 » Sun Oct 19, 2008 9:12 pm

Greetings from Devon,Transit geniuses.
Iam the happy owner of mk1,2ltr v4 1976 ci autohome.
engine is sweeeeet,gearbox etc ideal??
I have inherited an Hreg Hi-top longwheelbase 2.5di mk3.
and am wondering, how difficult it would be to graft all engine, running gear, etc
to it?Sacrilege!I know,but a useable vehicle is a must.
Have any of you gents, performed this miracle?
Any tips would be appreciated. :?

you will need a bullnose front to do it - they are hard to find these days, and it will be noisy :(

but its not a massive job to do :D

Welcome HAPPY1, I don't think it's sacrilege, I think it's a practical idea. As Like said, you will need the 'bull nose' bonnet and grille. As an extra the bumper but that's not essential to get your van on the road.

Here in Malta I see bull nose front getting scrapped for nothing ! Think here we have a plenty of parts.
For the conversion Happy I think it is a straight forward one just some abilities to modify the gear lever hole and the cross member to do every thing the original for the di. The other folks here can tell beter than me but as Alan said , think to insulate the engine bay before putting the engine
