emission control valve...

Postby mavis cruet » Sun Jan 04, 2009 7:08 pm

anybody had one of theses babies apart? its the thing sticking up out of the drivers side rocker cover on my mk 1 2l v4. it seems to consist of a bit of metal inside another bit of metal tube with a spring. im wondering if there should be some kind of rubber seal (is the valve supposed to stop stuff going in or out of the rocker cover?) also, does anyone know if it should be connected to the outlet on the inlet manifold, the one to the rear passenger side of the carb? (not the one for the servo).

as always thanks in advance....

It connects directly into the manifold.Inside is a spring loaded plunger. The design lets the engine digest some of the oil mist and smoke from the rocker covers. You can take them apart but cleaning them out with petrol is usually enough.
