lowering a mk2

I see that decambering was suggested to lower the front of a mk2 .
I dont have access to this service so I was wondering are there any other methods of lowering?
Heating?
Relocating the spring below the beam?

could try it - but remeber its stronger as it is now if you put it over the springs the full weight of the front will be on the u bolts

I was thinking of welding on a locating plate under the beam and using stronger u bolts.The same as alot of cars.Would this work?

i wouldn't weld to the beam - what sort of drop are you looking for

i drew some plans up for doing this to the back of a mk6 - i had a spreader plate and 4 u bolts instead of 2

cant picture the mk2 front in my mind fully - ive got one parked outside but its cold

The drop im looking for is about two inchs or the width of the beam.I was also thinking of more u bolts to take the strain.

Not a good idea to use heating. Spriny things tend to loose their springyness, then you might end up with a serious dropped front.

Why not get new springs made with a lower springy factor?

I could get custom springs made but it means getting them from the uk to Ireland and due to their weight might cost abit.Are they available to order off the shelf? And if so could point me in the right direction?

Why don't you fit a front valance (or what is it called..) like a spoiler , it will look as it had been lowered . I think by adding this you get the look you need , with far less trouble and work
My van is lowered on one side because the drivers spring is about 1inch lower than the other side, and think to change the passenger side spring to a decambered one. This is because I have 2 old decabered springs.

Fitted the engine (cos v6) to the van for the first time last night and now lowering is not an issue as the engine brought it down enough.

Now that you have that power in the van , you can consider as I intend to do, fitting some coil overs , or finding some shocks with build in coil springs , to reduce "the jumping castle " effect (or the kidney crusher as mentioned in this forum ) of the leaf springs
The best would be as luke did , the ifs but I dont have acess to such parts and no time

I have access to heavy truck parts and intend using a coilover that is fitted to cabs on tractor units.I am going to fit a variation of these on all four corners.
