mirror head nuts query

Hi All

I have managed to get hold of an nos off side wing mirror & mirror arm for a reasonable price to replace my original mk2 ones which only showed a view of the floor due to it rusting through....

Managed to get old one off eventually, 1 bolt snapped off in wing ;-( & have fixed on new arm. Bit longer than the old one.

The big problem is fixing the new head onto the arm as the fixing are totally different to what was used before. Have I got face lift parts hence different fixing's ?

Any one know what sort of nut to use please, guessing it is a special fixing? There is a short screw attached to the mirror head which fits on the arm ok but the hole to put nut in is square at the top, round at the bottom & not that big. Have not come across anything like it before can any body point me in the right direction as lack of a mirror is keeping the van off the road .... help !

these mk2 mirrors are a pain ,so many difrent type nuts. what you might have to do if you can take the glass out and see if you can bolt in throu onto the arm!

did think of that but as it is a brand spanking mirror didn't fancy trashing it just yet by breaking the front surround off, possbily breaking the glass as well.... wasn't that cheap

Hole in the top of the arm is square & if I remember right from early days at school there was something about square holes & round pegs !!!! Might cause a few issues

Might have to buy a welder

as i thought broke the glass. At least I can try to source something to fix the head to the arm. A new challenge
