Insurance - Agreed Value

Postby MK1Chris » Mon Feb 02, 2009 1:27 pm

Has anybody got their MK1 insured on a classic polisy at an "agreed value"?

If the worst happens and you have to make a claim, I think the market value that an insurer would offer will be much lower than the actual value of my van.

Not sure how they would go about it, but I would not be happy to accept a pay-out based on prices of MK1 campers that come up on e-bay etc.

Would anybody have any ideas of the value of a restored MK1 CI camper with 29k on the clock? You can see from the link in my sig, that there has been a lot of work done to it.

My insurers (Footman James) need an independant valuation from a specialist / car club official before they will agree a value.

wow not many of them around due to cost. As the risk assesmant on the policy added to what you want the policy to cover usually make these prohibitive. The cost of the premium will be higher than normal and they may even clamp a certain limit on your annual mileage as a consequence.

keep us updated as to your progress on this

I've had one of these letters sent to me by my insurance company Lynbrook Financial Management/ Equity Redstar :? .

They say fill in the form and send them 4 photos and a cheque for £15 and they will do the valuation.

Otherwise they say to send them a 'club or professional' valuation.

I'm in the Classic Camper Club, so I reckon someone there would know what to do :?:

I was just going to hold off for a little while until I get the respray done, etc.

The Footman James form used to be happy for you to value it yourself for up to £15000

They got taken over by AON since then, and im not sure whats changed :?

Yeah - I've sent them some photos and the value that I would like it insured for, but they didn't share my thoughts about the valuation that I gave it.

They, rather unhelpfully, didn't tell me what they thought it should be valued at, but they did say they would accept an independant valuation.

Going to the Bristol Classic Car show this weekend, so I might ask around some car clubs when I'm there.
