really REALLY need some parts help guys..

Postby rottie_007 » Tue Apr 14, 2009 6:38 pm

got told (on here) OD rear oil seal was the same as a non OD box so bought one but found it was too small..

so this might be down to the gearbox being an oddity.. it looks like a type 9 and has a GKN overdrive unit on??

also does anyone know if the cambelt tensioner on the YORK 2.4 is still available anywhere as my local factor drew a blank?

I hope I can be useful here to you. An oil seal is just that, an oil seal. Just because it says Ford on the bag don't mean it was made by them, so I would be tempted to try local bearing or gasket suppliers, look in yellow pages or google it, and see if an industrial seal supplier can help.
Obviously you will need to give them basic info such as i/d and o/d, and the depth of the seal.
You may have to search a little farther afield, like West Midlands, there's still lots of suppliers round here for this sort of stuff.

There may well be part/mfr numbers on it, you can do a web search/get a supplier to match up. Measure the casting, not the oil seal, other than the depth.

Greg.

I have been looking at a similar problem on mine. As madmark said, it is a laycock type J.
This overdrive was fitted to many sixties cars, and I have found parts drawings, part numbers and prices on the Rimmer Brothers website under Triumph Stag parts.

well as soon as I get the york timed up properly (teach me to not payheed to the original belt fitment) I will refit the rear flange and run it up just to make sure it IS coming from the rear and not from the body of the OD itself..
