MK1 - My window doesn't open/close properly?

Postby welshrussell » Sun Jul 26, 2009 10:33 am

Lately, my window winder handle has been making some horrible ratcheting noises when I wind the door window up or down :?

Then the window glass seems to stop but the handle is still spinning around making this horrible crunching noise (like stripped gear teeth)

I've had a look in my Haynes and Autobook and reckon it is something called a 'Regulator'

I just wanted to know is this a fairly easy part to replace, i.e. just undue the 3 retaining screws, whip it off, and replace with a new one :?:

But the question is 'where the hell do I find a replacement regulator from' :o :?:

I didn't want to start messing about any further with it because I was taking the van for her MOT and did not want to start dismantling things, just to find I end up with loads of bits on the floor an hour before the MOT

Any suggestions on where I could find a regulator will be gratefully received :D

Hiya Des :D

MOT went well but she only failed on some welding issues :(

However, I'm well chuffed because welding is easy for the garage to sort out, everything else I can do :D

But I don't have to do anything for this MOT

The garage are plating and welding 2 engine mounts and a suspension mount, plus fitting the electronic ignition, so I am expecting the van back on Monday or Tuesday afternoon :D

Then it's photo time (if it's sunny enough) 8)

So all in, the MOT should set me back about £200 - which is cool with me - because now I know the van is finally solid and sorted 8)
