electrical problem advice needed

I have late mk2 petrol. Temp and fuel gauge and were sometimes reading high then suddenly dropping low. All over the place but always together. I took off dash and cleaned up voltage stabilizer with electrical spray and put back. Now they seem to read low all the time. Temp runs just off bottom and fuel just over 1/2 when full. Do I need new stabilizer? If so where from? My motor factors shrugged their shoulders and the transit centre in Cov wanted me to buy whole dash 4 silly money said you couldnt buy one on their own.
