was on my way to work this morning in the amazing york powered flying campervan when all of a sudden I felt it misfire.. just the once mind.. not knowing when the gauge bottoms out on the fuel side as having recently changed the voltage reg for a new one as the old one was sort of home made . .lob in the can of fuel I keep in the footwell for emergencies and
get back on my way and again misfire.. then total loss of power followed by engine OFF
I finally manage to coast to a parking space and float in in utter silence (bar the swearing and cursing as it was raining hard and I was only in a T-shirt 2 miles from home). Turn key she starts straight away, runs dies runs dies runs dies runs dies
Get a spanner out check for air at the pipes find a little bit still doing the same thing.. take off the fuel delivery pipe and pump a full can so know the pickup isnt blocked in the tank (put it back in tank again), by now a bit baffled, fuel filter is new as is air filter, oil + filter and cambelt as gave engine full service just after it went in.
Phone my mate "Van is like someone is turning the ignition on and off when I try and rev it" you would have thought by now I would have realised the fault as I had literally just said it to him. SO walk home in rain, get motorbike out of shed, ride to work arrive like drowned ferret, do day at work ride home again pick up OH and some tools and head back down to the bus, put another tenners worth of fuel in for good measure van starts and runs fine so head for home. all the way home misfire run etc.. get home and start going through the fuel lines to look for pinholes etc, what did I find????
how does a diesel engine turn on and off??
yep the stop solenoid wire had come loose !!!!!!!!!!!!!
still at least its sorted now, I was about to start changing fuel filters again and faffing about..
still you live and learn
