Mk2 with timing problems

Postby doublemalt » Sat Aug 15, 2009 12:01 pm

Hi guys!

I have an Mk2 of 1983 with a Pinto 2l engine (converted to a camper van).

My problem is, that the timing of the engine tends to deteriorate, which blew my exhaust now on my way from Vienna to Edinburgh. So now I'm looking for a garage in the area Edinburgh that knows their way around old transit engines.

Also I'm looking for a new Engine, and gearbox as both are not really suited for long distance Motorway travel (especially the gearbox).

Any tips or pointers?

cheers

if your timing keeps going adrift, an electronic ignition would probably help but not really cost effective but a couple of things to try are put a couple of drops of oil on the felt pad underneath the rotor arm and a smear of vaseline on the distributor cam lobes
