Temp guage sender unit on 2.5Di help!

Postby frog » Wed Aug 05, 2009 5:29 pm

Hi Guy's

As I'm in the middle of swapping a york to a Di engine I have noticed that the sender unit on the Di only has one wire on it.
B4 I blow something up can someone tell me if it can be replaced for a two wire one as on the york,or how to get it to work on the temp gauge on the dash. I have kept the dash from the Di transit just in case I have to swap it out to get the temp gauge to work.. Any advice welcome..

The single wire sender on the Di is earthed onto the engine itself. The York sender isn't, hence the two wires, one of them is an earth.

The dash end should be fine to go as the earth from the sender will be to the chassis or engine somewhere.

Thanks GBBiker

I'll check it out when I get to that stage. So if I have got this right the single wire is a negative feeding back to the gauge, and the gauge already has the positive??

the york I fitted to my transit had 2 senders.. one with two wires which is apparently for the glow plugs (stops them working if its up to temperature) and then it had a single wire one at the front right of the cylinder head which is what I ran to my gauge

You have to fit the di gauges , and the respective di sender for the gauge to read properly. Else it would be reading too high, if you keep the current gauge, which might have a different resistance or something.
then you should check if the fuel gauge reads corectly asswell.
