Electirical Question for the experts - please

If you read my above post, I did a test dropping the wired up sender into some just boiled water. Do you think that should move the needle? I just don't know. Maybe this thing is working perfectly and my engine just won't overheat, but then again, the just boiled water is pretty hot, but water in the engine, under pressure would be hotter, right???

is yours is a single wire sender :?: if so did you earth the water :?: if not no :!:

In boiling water, the needle should definately move. The gauges range from about 60 degrees at the lower end of the scale up to about 110 degrees.

is yours is a single wire sender :?: if so did you earth the water :?: if not no :!:

It is a single wire unit which also has a ground wire, if that makes sense.



Yeah, I guess I kinda did earth the water. I connected a wire to the body of the sender and earthed that, but as it ended up in the water I guess it earthed the water as well.

The sender wire bit was in the water as well though. I just wired it up, with ground wire included, and dipped it in the hot water. Did I get it wrong?

hi ambulance man, slightly off topic and I apologise for that BUT can you take a photo of your engine in your engine bay as im about to banana my mk2 and would like a rough idea of how it will all look when installed !!!

seems everyone missed the most obvious one here?? when you go to the motor factors buy a new thermostat for it, i would guess the old one is probably stuck open or even missing :D
