Get a similar power steerin box.

Fit it.

Modify the drop arm at your own risk.

there are 2 ways to this problem;
1. refer to kiwi v8 site where he fitted a electric power steer unit.
2. i fitted a power steering box from a toyota 4 runner or hilux utes the units have to come from a leaf spring model, steering column from a xf falcon and xf pump
the pitman arm has to be resplined to fit the steering box, make new mounting bracket for the box to align with the steering column, the pitman arm from a toyota can be used but the connection hole to the drag link will need to be altered .

Any reason why you didn't simply weld the back half the Toyota drag link to the front half of the Transit drag link please Bob?

i looked into fitting an ldv one before and it involved a bit more chopping to the inner wing and chassis leg than id like. the ldv shell is a very different design where the steering box goes.

Thanks Oldskooler, interesting.
Have you seen the technique where you drill and tap some say 6mm steel plate to the same pattern as the Transit bolts holes.
Then drill the plate on the other side to match the power steering box holes.
That way you can fit the adapter plate to the power steering box, and using studs, bolt the adapter plate to the Transit chassis?

Would that method have saved chopping the Transit chassis leg please?

not really, you id really need to see one and compare it to a transit to know what i mean. using a mk3 box and mounting plate is really the only tidy solution.

:D

I daresay there's as many reasons as there are people who'd like power steering on their early Transits Neil.

Probably, wishing to keep an important historic vehicle running on modern overcrowded roads, and accepting the limitations imposed by advancing years and stability play important roles.

A further factor is that early Transits were designed around cross ply tyres.
Cross ply tyres weren't exactly noted for their grip, so they didn't make steering heavy at low speeds.
Modern radials exert far more grip, and therefore make steering at low speeds much heavier.
