Not in my van, MKII CI 2.5 diesel. 55 is just about flat out and therefore can't be ideal for fuel economy. Of course I get an extra 5 or 10 mph with a stiff following wind!

I have often wondered which is the ideal speed for economy in these things, but suspect I'd just find it too slow. I tend to drive just a little under flat out, about 50 probably (speedo reads fast).

in a LWB Mk2 panel van if I keep to 60 I have got 270 out of a tank of petrol, with the MT75 5 speed conversion. She had been off the raod for a while and I thought the fuel gauge was broken

I DRIVE AT 50/55 ON MOTORWAYS, AND GET AROUND 38/40 MPG, MK1 LANDLINER 2.5DI, I HAVE HAD IT UP TO 80 FOR A COUPLE OF MILES JUST TO SEE WHAT IT WOULD DO, BUT ONLY ONCE, IT.S FOUR SPEED WITH OVERDRIVE, I HAVE BEEN TOLD A FIVE SPEED BOX WOULD GIVE ME BETTER MPG, BUT I DONT THINK IT WOULD, IT.S DOWN TO AXEL RATIO,

This ones similar spec to yours - 4 speed 2 liter V4

This one has silly air filter on it and a sunshine bulkhead so I can hear what its doing! and it sounds to be gulping least at about 40! bearing in mind it goes into top around 32Mph that prob puts it at around 2200 rpm at 45 so i reckon anything much more is going to hurt fuel rather horribly, especially with the "aerodynmics" so good!

The old V4 auto panel van seemed to give its best in the 45 - 50 mph range as well

I stick to just over 50 in mine - but still get rubbish fuel economy... It makes my daily driver 3litre V6 Peugeot coupe look positively frugal

I've been on a motorway once... but have learnt my lesson  and now try to stay to A and B roads.

I would try it again with my tom but I don't have a lighter socket to try it

It was going down the dual carrage way when I got 85 out of her. I think it would be about right as I was actually overtaking and not been over took
