Postby Sundowner » Sat Dec 03, 2005 11:00 pm

Has anyone dropped their transit a few inches?
whats involved, is it a matter of just resetting the leafs?

Good Morning

Don't you just attach the axles to the top of the spring instead of the bottom. Block it if you need it to be lower.

I want to drop it so the wheels fill the arches, yes a full load would get it down a little but the most it'll be hauling will be me the wife 3 kids and some tools
plus a car trailer with a TE cortina on it

The suspension is very stiff, it picks the left rear wheel of the ground every time i pull into my drive, I know lowering it wont stop this its more for looks and a little more stability

Cad i dont think the diff will fit between the rails and the springs if it where mounted on top

Yep, looked at the photo from your other thread. It would be a tight fit and you definately be bottoming out unless you put longer rear shackles on. Or leave diff as is and put smaller shackles on which may not get enought lowering distance. In NSW I believe you can't get rego (mot) if your axles are above springs, but I maybe wrong.

MIne has a 1" raising block inbetween the leaf and the axle!! thats coming out if it looks too high other than that i think it would have to be re-drilled mountings!!! :? mabe?

while were on the subject since removing the Di and fitting the ointo i have found the front sits about 2" higher!! :(

Personally I would only go up, longer and bigger. I don't do little or low, but it's all down to personal taste. As far as commercial vehicles go, we have enough unessesary attention as it is, without making the vans look like they are permanantly overloaded!

Yep that got to be an improvment

But some of us like to go around corners at more than 40kph without getting sea sick

They look awkward sitting high and raising them more would just be dangerous

But it would suit your van as you carry alot around and need the clearance but hey thats why polly bags where invented

if you do let me know as i might be interested in them :P

now as for the lowering thing, there is a couple of things you can try, some have been covered already

Rear
1) relocate axle over springs, but not recommended and a fair amount more work than you think
2) change the shackle length
3) Redrill the mountings to allow higher placement
4) change the springs :P ... not all will sit so high, or even get some tired springs  i swapped my tired old springs out for some others and got a 2 - 3" lift :)

Front (not so easy as less space to work with)
Best i can think of is to redrill and relocate the hanger postitions, or possibly swap out the springs for those from a lighter engined van, those will sit lower

now for the bit always overlooked .... shocks, remember if you dont get shorter ones, then your original ones will be permanently compressed 1 - 2" more than they normally would be, this might lead to a stiffer ride

xr4ti were a race type car in this country.looks like a normal xr4i rear wheel drive.its got a bit spoiler on the back and two small windows in the side rear.3 door sierra.xr4i have the 2.8 v6 in them but the xr4ti had the engine 2.3 4 cylinder with a dirty great turbo in. Andy Rouse has still got one he used to race it in the 1980s.
