Are there many mk1/mk2s left in Ireland?

Postby imustloverust » Mon May 19, 2008 11:52 pm

I've just recently bought an old 1982 mk2 camper and i'm on the hunt for parts. Luckily she seems to have been spared much abuse but of course the front hangers and cross member need a touch with the mig! Other than that she's in good condition. Hope to get her on the road before the end of the summer.
Since i bought her i havent noticed many mk1 or 2s on our roads. Does anybody drive them here or have they all become field monuments?
Do reply if you do drive one and maybe we could share some info!

By the way im looking for a good bonnet and some interior stuff if you got some lying around.

PS. Good forum lads. Some great info on the old trannies. Keep up the good work!

Thanks i will keep you in mind. I've got a few scrap yards to ring tomorrow to see if they've got any parts in "stock". You might get a PM sooner than you think though!

Anybody closer to home?

Forgot to add my Mark 2 is a 1980 Phase 1, 120 Martin Walter Hitop conversion with 1600cc leaded Pinto engine and 4 speed gearbox on 6 stud single wheels currently off road undergoing usual welding repairs prior to refurbishment. :D

If you need any engine parts in the future they are the same as the pinto in the cortina and the sierra. 6 stud single wheels? That's rare.

Hi Fred,
I've seen a few Mark 3 six stud singles before but have yet to come across another Mark 2 like mine, everything underneath as per twin wheel, the extra weight makes the Hitop very stable even in high winds, sticks to the road like glue, but steering light as a feather on 205 x14 tyres.

I hope to be touring around the country by july so at least there'll be one back on the road! (fingers crossed). Might even give her a lick of paint before we set off!
Hopefully i won't need to many engine parts as the engine has been replaced with an "modern" electronic sierra engine. No points for me! But thanks for the info.
I can't wait to get the front hangers welded up and take her for a spin. Haven't got her above 30mph yet, a venture into the unknown.
Shes a single wheel ft100 conversion from holland imported into ireland in 1997 so driving our narrow roads should be fun! Does anyone known should i change the headlamps for rhd ones or does it really matter?

It's been tried before. One of my neighbours has 4 mk3 in a field but still hasn't got a new one out of them yet! :)

Looking through the mk1/mk2 pages I came across this thread and thought it would be good to let myself be know.

I have 2 mk1's but neither road worthy at the moment. I'm always looking for spares so maybe we could help each other out through time :D :D

I'm based up north but travel the island for work
Oh how I long for the day when the rust is all gone!!!!! :-)

What ever about mk2 stuff, mk1 parts must be lke gold-dust on this island!
I'll be going part hunting in a few yard around the galway/clare area soon so i'll keep an eye out for mk1s. Any parts in particular?
