Mk3 Steering on Mk2

I noticed my steering pole on my mk2 are "dented"
I have plans for using the mk2 Pittman arm, mk2 joint ball, in front and back at the other arm.
I plans to replace my thinner steering pole with a much more powerful mk3 pole. I will also use the mk3 joint balls there too,
I noticed my mk3 pole is a little wider than my mk2, but i will try to make it fit.

Is there anybody here who has done this swap, Will it work?? My steering is pretty rotten as my joint balls are "gone", I have new one from ford.

as well as laughing, i'm also intrigued by the "mix-n-match" of parts here, so i'll keep an eye on your progress with interest

I looked in to mix and match mk2/3 when i did the pas convertion - in the end put everything from mk3 on - from the steering wheel to the beam/hubs

the mk3 arm is a different size taper to the mk2 one but if you are fitting the complete lot i think it should go on

isnt the mk3 wider than mk2 axle ?if so the parts wont fit will they

I was told my beam was off a 90 mini bus it fitted my v reg mk2 -boltted straight on the springs only mod was mounting the pas steering box

the steering bar that goes across the van from one side ot the other is longer on the mk3 than the mk2 (i know cause i've got a brand new one )... if i remember correctly it's about an inch longer, but dont hold me on that

i`m sorry, no windows busher here.

I know the bar is one inch or less longer, but i see on the tightening on the rose joints. you can adjust it to fit just screw them longer into. Tomorrow i will see if its fits as plans...

I have a steering box from a mk3, But the pole that goes from the box to the steering wheel was to short. and 3 screws hole in the torpedo wall. or else i could have used the ignition key and light switches. as my old one broke down on me...

I screw the Joint balls more into the pole. One links and one regular.
IT FIT`s my mk2 !!!!!!!!
But just, had it been .... 5-10mm wider i could not swap that wider mk3 steering pole...

This pole from a mk3 is much powerful than the thin mk2 pole.
Today it`s raining like sh*t. Heard that the storm "ike" is on the way to make our transit`s wet..

But this seems like working !!!!

interesting, thank you for the info.... i was under the impression that the mk3 ball joints/drag link ends were of a different thread pitch to the mk2 ones.... so i didnt know if the nk2 ones would fit the mk3 pole

After days of pouring rain of destruction.
i take of the old mk2 bits and replace it with some mk3 parts.
The mk3 pittman`s arm is more durable, seems more powerful. my old mk2 pittman seems bendt somehow... and rusty....
But when the pittman`s arm is off the steering box, i feel some "slack" in the steringbox, I will adjust the tightening screw. Anyone know what oil i shall fill on my mk2 steering box??? and how much????

The mk3 steering pole. is 1" wider than the mk2... But it fits just fine, just adjust the bolts longer into the middle...

The mk3 hubs in front are much wider than the mk2 aswell. so the steering from a mk3 with these poles and stuff, will fit just fine.

i use 2 rose joints from mk2 at the pittmans arm and at the back.. and i use 2 rose joints at the steering pole from mk3.

Seems like everything goes well....

is the mk2 axle king pin to king pin the same or different to the mk3 one

eeh... I did not use the mk3 kingpin. Did not have the right tools. But then i tried mk2-mk3 swap, i just used the front hub 6studs from a mk3. fitted just fine. become a little bit wider at the front, but thats ok. A little misunderstanding from ford dealer makes me on a hold. waiting for the right bits and parts...
