zetec in a mk1 flat front! it will fit????

Postby Luke » Mon Dec 22, 2008 11:42 pm

for ages i'd always thought a zetec would go well in a mk1 transit keeping the flat front (as they look more beautiful that way  ) the reason i thought it would fit is if you look at a sierra with a cvh theres loads of room infront of the engine and the zetec is basically a 16v head on a cvh block :D

well now i have a mk1 transit with a flat front i've given it some thought and still undecided but i dont think im going zetec :)

but speaking to minormatt he's given me a rough measurement of the zetec he's fitting into his minor and its 490mm from the g/box face to the front pulley so i popped outside and measured the mk1 - 480mm from the g/box face to the radiator :D of course this means it wont fit  but by 10mm which is easly found - the rad would move forward you could mount the box back etc. etc.

ok so you still have the problem of mounting it to a gearbox but the main thing is it will phisically go in ok 8)

so if i'm not gonna do it next best thing is to watch somone else have a go on here 8)

any takers :?:

You can use sierra 1.8 cvh gearbox, flywheel, starter etc on a fwd 1.6 cvh all bolts straight on-i've done it in a westfield. The flywheel needs re-drilling to suit zetec (think its big bolt size looks like it's going to fit till you try -can't remember for sure)
The problem you would have in the thermostat housing facing the bulkhead, raceline etc do kits for mk1/2 escorts but are £100+
I had thought of replacing my pinto with zetec?

well i still state that any engine in a big twin wheel van isnt going to pull it along that well, unless your talking modern diesel
i have tried a 1.7v4
a 3ltr v6
and a 2ltr ohc and all were rubbish!
the diesel is the way to go,maybe a zetec in a swb might be a difrent story!

whats the difference in the zetec flywheel bolt pcd and the pinto one :?:
my thoughts were bolt up a pinto adapterplate onto a zetec so a transit MT75 would fit but then somehow mod the transit pinto flywheel to fit the zetec crank

but yes as geoff says i'm now thinking of going TDCi :D one thinks for certain the 1.7V4 isnt staying in

yeah but in a swb a nice cheep zetec could be the way to go :D i reckon £200-£300 could have the job done but the TDCi is gonna be waaaay more :!:
thats what puts me off the zetec for mine the weight of my mk1 as its a lwb :?

mate trust me a zetec will not pull any better than the pinto ,its the touque its not enouph grunt! yes you may have 120bhp or whatever they are but the touque figure is well low compaid to the diesel engine!
even the essex v6 is low tourqe output compaid to a diesel !
