I don't think they ever did a 5 speed and we had loads of 'em at work. I had a 5 speed from a Mk3 fitted to mine, which was a good conversion. Didn't seem any higher geared top end, but the drop from 1st to 2nd and from 2nd to 3rd was much closer which made it much better for towing. :D
Where's me anorak!!!

dave a mk2 was never fitted with 5 speed only a overdrive option!
sounds like its a type 9 from a mk3 ,this should fit in without to much hassle ,from memory i think the crossmember maybe difrent but the prop should fit if you have a standard 4 speed g type box!

hi regardin that last post, mk2s were never fitted with type 9 boxes as factory option!! your the one talking rubbish mr!!
that said it is the easiest conversion if you dont want to chop the gearstick hole,
if its type 9 the gearstick sits alongside the box and is fitted from bottom up, the casing is cast iron type and the prop from a 4 speed type g box will fit straight on,
you need the type 9 crossmember as previously suggested and the type 9 speedo cable, once fitted check the oil level every 3 months as they tend to cook it off.

That shouldn't be a mk2.
maybe fitted to a mk2. Your avtar seems right.

So for not having such confusion , should we have a sicky type topic in the info section, with pics , which gearbox is which and to what they where fitted originaly??
Or is there one and I haven't seen it?

Fords did not manufacture a 5 speed commercial box before the MT75. That box was never fitted by fords to the MK2..... FACT :!:
