A couple of pics of my MK1 Campervan

Postby welshrussell » Mon Aug 10, 2009 2:30 pm

Well, I've finally broke the 500 mile mark on the engine rebuild and boy is the van purring now 8)

She actually accelerates up hills in 3rd and 4th where before she would crawl up in 2nd gear :o

She buzed around the Highlands for a couple of days and didn't miss a beat - it was absolutely fantastic to drive this van compared to how she has been in the last 3 years.

I even managed to overtake a couple of cyclists this time

Lots and lots of money spent - but worth every penny :D

The temp needle has also dropped and is now settling to just over halfway, no matter what the driving conditions, so I hope after a couple more hundred miles she will sit on the half way mark.

I'll try to take better photos at the Scottish Forum Meet later this week (if it's sunny enough)

But she is finally doing what she was built to do - take me on holiday :D

I did buy a new temp sensor, but it did not work at all :?

The new one was listed as a V4 Corsair and came with a blue top and B600 stamped on it, where as the old one (which still works) has B750 on it :?

But here's the pics - enjoy :D

Oh yes indeed - already planning another trip away next month and the Scottish Forum Meet on Sunday.

I just have to post this engine photo again, the others are a bit rubbish.

The V4 is such a thing of beauty

Another Forum member kindly donated me some really nice thin ruibbed matting from a Land Rover that will do the job nicely :D

So now I'm just trying to source some wheel arch covers :?

Add it to the 'to do' list

Looks excellent mate!

Loving the 'wood' trim on the door cards - I don't have those on mine

I would love them more too if they hadn't lost all their clips and weren't so worn out :(

They flap about like mad everytime you open and close the door and are getting slightly warped now :(

It's a real shame because i really love the look of the brown cards compared to black ones.

I saw some on ebay, where I think a guy sells brand new reproduction ones (only in black) but at something like £160 a pair :o

So I have cut to shape some thin plywood and have got some blue oilcloth , ready to recover them and glue some new clips in place.

Yet another thing for the list

I can't wait to take her out for a spin again on Sunday - just got to keep my eye on some rogue jubilee clips :?

After the rebuild it seems some of them weren't as tight as they should have been and a had a couple of small leakage incidents

But other than that I'm trying to adjust to taking corners slower than I used to as halfway round some 40mph bends I get visions of the afterlife

I always find that if you hear the oven door come open, then you are going too fast round the corner so stamp on the brake!
