MK2 with Sierra gearbox

Postby chrisrotlmacin » Sat Feb 26, 2011 7:48 pm

I just purchased a MK2 Diesel 2.5 with Sierra 5 gear gearbox . The original gearbox got broken .
The gear changer is about 40 cm back of his original position .
Any one else with this change ???

Intersting ! I would like to go for a 5 speed gearbox for my Transits. Do you have any information about your gearbox or the car it comes from ?

is it an MT75 or a type 9 (where is reverse gear)

if its a type 9 (reverse up next to 1st) you can get the transit type 9 stick and it will bolt onto the top of the sierra box :D

if its the mt75 ................. you cant :)

if you get the transit stick like what is shown in the picture it will bolt onto your sierra box and you can take off the origanal sierra stick - then your stick will be in the correct place and the right length :D

From what transit model is the type 9 stick ?? The previous owner told me that the original stick was not used because the gear changer with sierra gearbox is between the chairs . I apologize if my questions are too much , i am just discovering my MK2 that i purchase today . Huge difference , more heavy .. feels like i drive a tank .. that front bumper (tick metal) is scary against any regular car that is build the present .

Does anyone have an exploded view from the inside of the selector case?

I'm pretty sure that in our older transit ('81 mk2) it's missing some part inside..
-Very often the stick get blocked and then it's impossible to change gears. We must take off the entire stick and re-align the (3) "plates" in order to un-block the mechanism

Can anyone please help?
Thanks

-> '81 York diesel MK2 phase1 White Minibus

i take it you havent changed the stick position then luke :?: that box wont last long in there as the input shaft on a sierra is shorter and is not reaching into the spigot :wink: and to change the stick you also need to change the tail section and i wouldnt advise a diy job on that :) enjoy it while it lasts :lol:

using the transit stick it picks up on a different part of the selecter rods- once the sierra stick is off as you select gears you can see the sierra linkage move :D i think i might have one still somewhere :?
