well, we had the repray on Alex so long ago that the paint dried out! So, I think he ordered Genetian blue from Ford and its not quite that shade! It's the French, once again that I have to thank for that! Was clipped by a fork lift on an exhibition site, it was dark and I didn't notice until I got up the motorway in the services! Otherwise, world war three!!!

White colour code?

Postby aki74 » Mon Sep 12, 2005 12:04 pm

My question is more at home on this thread.

Did all transits have the lower grille painted white or just some of them? Wich one? I have white bumber and wheels.

What is the code for the white paint?

The CE blue was on the paint dealers computer, so I'll get it right. I hope the white is there too. My intention will be to paint the inside too while I'm at it.

If it is J then it can only be Sunset Red also known as Kardinalrot, which was used between 1971 and 1976. Alternative codes for that particular colour are 0574, J1, and CMP.

BS is Monaco Red 1961-1987. Aalternative codes for that are 0227 and AMP.

Mines fiord blue too! but have just gone out to my paint stack and find i have 2 Fiord blues from the same supplier - CE and QLH the CE is the colour of my van and a light blue sky colour, and the big can labelled QLH is nowt like - more sea blue or toawrds the gentian blue shade! so I guess I'll be taking that back as they managed to not match it to there own supplied sample!!
Question is, are there 2 fiord blues?

If yours has painted bumpers (from original) it's a standard model and probably left the factory in primer. What colour is under the bonnet? I read somewhere the customs (that left the factory in a top shiny coat) had their grilles hand painted white at the factory. This look was often copied by the coach painters who put on the top coat to vans that were ordered in primer.

Having bitten the bullet and started on the roof of my Mk1 I've checked out if my local (and more reliable!) paint supplier could find the Fiord blue.
The plot thickens, there are 2 blues under my year (77) for Fiord blue and Fjord blue which is why I have the wrong sample I mentioned above! the CE one is sky blue and doesn't appear on all material listings whereas the darker one appears just about everywhere including Car plans colour match aerosol range, and also crosses to an XSC number and a Ral code which makes the Colour chips easier to locate

Just thought I'd share this fascinating info :D

PS a Tranny roof will take at least a full tub of easy one to get level........
