MK1 brake shoes+wheel cylinders in AUSTRALIA - urgent

ok, ive got myself some front and rear brake shoes, so thats all sweet.

however.

Wheel cylinders are proving to be a nightmare, no one has parts listings, and the only place i found that does, cant get them. and says my only option is to for out 80bucks EACH cylinder (80x4=320!!!) and get them fully re sleeved and re kitted.

any one get any suggestions?

Don't know, need to talk to brake old timer. There's an expression: "if it's not broken don't fix it"

I did my rears yesterday at $17 each

I have GT falcon 5" wide finned drums
I can get replacment drums for what your cylinders cost

I feel for you guys

You could give them a hone and put new cups through them.

And if it goes wrong get them stainless sleeved.... thats worked for me.

If they are just 'damp' rather than 'wet' you could cleant the cylinders up with some wire wool, and get some RED grease, assuming you can get red grease where you are!

What part of the country you in? Ive got some mates that work on commercial trucks in Perth that may be able to point you in the right direction.

Hi, just been to Auto One and they can order wheel cylinders (74 Transit) in for about $50 a piece. Brake shoes they have to have rebonded.

Least if you know they are available it takes away the worry about it for the future.

Yeah mate it wasn't cheap to get the cylinders done i dont know the actual price but for :

A set of 6 resleved cylinders with new cups
A resleved master cylinder with new cups
4 new flexy hoses
New shoes all round
And the drums machined
I may have left something off, i baiscally reconditioned the whole brake system execpt the booster.

Cost me about $750

However i have had no problems or weeping since so i dont mind spending the cash.

yeh, i got new front and rear shoes for 78 bucks

and i found out that all 4 of my wheel cylinders had been stainless resleeved in the last 6 to 12 months and simple needed a clean and new boots....i was very very happy.
