Baz is right and I agree with him, to a point. Having no windscreen is not exactly comfortable, but having no tyres would be just plain stupid.

The Saga continues.........

Right the garage I took it to in Brum, originally said they could do me an MOT, but cant as its over weight (I took it to them and they said they could do it!!! thought they were class 7 :oops:

).

Brakes - all now fine, the garage changed the shoes and freed off the rear wheel and a bleed nipple £180 for that

..... could easily have done it myself but time issues!

New bigger problem - Exhaust would make a good sieve - as its a 2.8 V6 in a MK1, they have enough trouble getting an original exhaust, let alone one for an old vehicle with the wrong engine and they wont patch the exhaust

. They recommended a custom exhaust garage.... but I hate to think how much that will cost and I was planning on an engine swap - 2.5 DI.

So i have given in and I'm having the van shipped from Bham up to my parents place in Kendal (where I will be able to work on it at my leisure.... but only when i can get there)

I modified an exhaust system from a performance escort, to put in my minor, so I should be able to do it again.

I think I might try and sell the 'motor caravan', then save up and buy a mk1 van / camper van, unless anyone has a cheap one they want to part ex / swap

one way of shipping a vehicle without mot is to book it in for test at a station near where where you want to go and drive it there or am not sure on this one but as far as i know you can drive it from a failed test to a place of repair ie your parents place

I don't know if the booking a test ploy will work as it's already failed a test and it's on computer now. You can take it from the test to where it's going to be repaired, but a few miles might be a bit much. If you are planning to spend money of the transport, you might as well buy a new exhaust. Why did they say it was over weight? Class 7 is for up to 3.5 tons, and a Mk1 transit can't be over that. Did they weigh it?
A motor caravan is just another term for camper BTW, CIs are the luton shape, and others are van conversions.

If youre still in Brum let me know as my local station is very helpfull and has the height for campers - Mill Garage in Kings Norton 0121 486 3486 all my stuff goes there and they let anything sensible pass - they don't care about the stupid teenage tester ideas....
As for exhaust i have a complete MK3 V6 exhaust in good shape if you need it I just couldn't bear to put it through the crusher - so very cheap (or free :lol:

)

Camper passed test this morning , not sure how but most of it was working, only had a light bulb needing a wiggle..... although the non-testeable condition might raise a few eyebrows
