You would be amazed at what Gary takes just to France! Clutch cable, 2 mirrors, indicators ect, and he has used them at some stage.

Nice trip!!

Well, in our trip to Morroco (and back.. ) (see -> viewtopic.php?f=3&t=12432) we took the following spares:

-water pump
-Cables: Clutch and acelerator
-Belts: alternator, fan, timming
-a pack of 1 front and 1 rear bearing
-an extra spare wheel
-box of every light and fuses
-oil
-coolant


Before the trip, we've changed:
-oil
-filters
-replaced a faulty front bearing.

During the trip, we had the follwing troubles:
-A slight leak from the injection pump (it started on km 10 and stayed with us until the end - and waaaaay after.. LOL)
And.. A flat tyre.


More than 6000Km on 14/15 days. Not bad!!

I had exactly the same model, the reason why I sold it was the fact that if something happens to the windshield, I have to go in Ireland to find it. I would be worried about that for the trip to Mongolia; the roads you will use, in Russia, Kazakhstan, even in Moldavia are very risky for your big windshield. So think about a spare one, made from two parts, plexyglass or something similar, easy to store on the top of the van and not heavy. Hi, I drove a 998cc micra to Mongolia last summer. I would say unless you have a really good 4x4 then the smaller the car the better, because you can push it, ( 4 of us pushed the micra 1km up a fairly steep incline) so a transit could be tricky if you get stuck.
Take lots of tyres, we got through 12, dont take spare leaf springs etc. people are resourceful and can make things for you. Fit a sump guard and lots of spare fuel.
