5 speed / od gearbox in mk1

fred it was drilled out if i remember and made to a plate ,a auto box bellhousing was cut down to fit !
cost about £300 way back then ,cant remeber what i done with it tho,it also fitted the 4 speed type f box i used it for a wile then went auto !

the problem is ,if you get rid of stuff then you will need it thats sods law!

i run a 3.0v6 overdrive box and zephyr diff its perfect in my mk1, the v6 has plenty of torque to put it 120+ even though its only got 150hp. this is a very good setup if you can sorce the parts

how do you get the gear lever throught the hole in the floor
Can i fit a transit five speed gearbox from late 80s to a mk1 i have noticed the gear lever sits on the side of the box just like the old 4 speed which means no extra holes in the floor maybe?
What cars had the overdrive box then?

The Mk2 had the OD box. It's basically the same box as the 4 speed with an OD unit bolted to it.

so would it work with the 5 speed transit box as well?
Are not OD boxes harder to come by?
