this is what i did when i had a similar problem - to diagnose if it was fuel pump or line/tank related!

i got a drum of diesel tied it in the engine bay against the steering column filled it with diesel and put the pick up pipe difectly into it - drove down the road see what it was like :D

with mine it was fine so i realised it was fuel line related :D but this was on an earlier engine that didnt have a lift pump :D

also what make of diesel pump do you have :?:

Hi luke! Do you mean that you drove the van by gravity? thats what we say here
the injection pump I dont know very well but it has like a blue piece of plastic shaped like a cone on the side , probably a bosh??? i dont know i have to check

Yep, I had the same problem, mine used to be a petrol, problem went away with a new everything from tank to injectors . . . definitely fuel delivery related as mine still does it if I run the tank really low and it sucks a bit of air, or if the fuel filter is badly clogged - it revs up when I put the clutch in. It's a pain.

Long time before posting in this thread!
wel when the van was in and had the box out , I thought to change the fuel tank maybe it would solve the problem.
I had an diesel tank taken off a factroy fitted diesel van :
The diesel tank seems the same siz as the petrol one but in the bottom it has some differences:

Most notably the difference is that from the inside the offset in the botom is rounded by a sheet metal not to allow the diesel fuel to shake violently in the tank and to keep diesel concentrated there when low on fuel
and these are their respective sender units:

For now the change of the tank seems to have solved completley the problem :D :D .
