pop out and get us a dB reading at 70mph

i dunno now  i dont really mind power wise (anything 100ps or above will be ok) but i dont want to go to all the effort for it to be ruined by the noise :(

mate everybody we know with a tddi seems trouble free, i think the tdci is more tepremental :? :?
if i was fitting a diesel in the mk1 (maybe oneday) i would like the 100ps tddi 2ltr if it was possible!

and luke you need the flatfront ,looks better with the old style ,the diesel front is nice if you can get the bits to go with it !

any more modern 4 cylinder petrol has more grunt than the old 1.7 V4. but dont wash out the low rpm torque of the V4.
think you should look into vw, iff you want to keep the flat front.
1.8 16v or G60 even K jet injection engines with dont take very much electric work to get running.
measured most ford engines as I at first wanted to keep the original gearbox patern. no fit unles you remake the firewal. VAG (TDI) has lots of room left ( in proportion)

crazy idea is a subaru engine. very short as its not a line engine, and will fit between the chassisrails 70 cm wide. 2.2 legacy engines have loads of torque and ar dirt cheap here in holland.

al these ford diesels er good engines, but i still prefer the VAG TDI. its way shorter to.

only engines to look in is the PSA 1.4 or 1.6 HDI engine. but they are more expensive and also have lots of electronics and safety keys. there all aluminium and very small. think the 1.6 16v has 110hp and 240nm std.

if you thinking of a 250nm+ engine think about a decent gearbox. the 2.5 DI gearbox wont hold. the type 9 or 4 sp-OD will break also. iv put a 81 kw TDI in a swb bus mk1. goos like crazy, got a 4.11 axle now and a OD gearbox. I would use a different gearbox if i'd build it again. ford gearbox hase no adavnatges as I still hae to make everythig custom.
Im just hitting the trottle in top gear (with/without OD).
this is direct drive without gears getting the power over. the OD holds OK thiss far. there also used in volvo's and 6 cyl britisch cars so i think there up to the job.
dont buy it, build it

mondeo TDCi 130ps
Maximum Power: 130ps (128 bhp) @ 3500 rpm
Maximum Torque: 243 lb/ft (330 Nm) @ 1500 rpm

I think that may be just enough torque for a transit  33lbsft more than a rover V8. you can chip that too............

I always planned to use a 5 speed box with a modern engine and a propshaft mounted overdrive in my MK2.
there is a company that does them on the net for all sorts of classics inclusing blower bentleys, on a transit they replace the centre bearing of the propshaft.
i thought that way i could have 6 decent useable gears and keep a transit axle like a 4.63 and get decent top speed, without sacrificing hill start ability in 1st gear.
what do you think?
