Mk2 Kingpins. Any short cuts?

Oh I wish there could be a return to "common sense" short cut was what Dave wanted, short cuts is what he got. I hope he has some of the aforementioned and knows what to do for the best and safest

Indeed. Im not after bodging anything and i will always do things right, but what i needed was a short cut to please the MOT man.
Its easier for me to get the MOT and then replace the kingpin at my leisure, rather than be rushed into it as im expecting all sorts of horrors and then find myself with a out of action campervan and a holiday on the way.

Whilst sorting through stuff to find up a king pin kit that was in the pile of "that will come in handy one day" stuff I came across a single king pin kit in a ford box.
It's similar to the Mk1 king pins in size but the bearings are much shorter and although it has a groove in the middle for a cotter the ends of the pin are shaped like mushrooms. I can't remember where or when I got it and it might not even be in its correct box.
Anyone any ideas?.

There are no part numbers on the box which is damaged and possibly not even the right one anyway.

Got MOT now, prob about 1mm of shim in kingpin and sorted. New kingpin kit on order now.

Apparently the very earliest Mk1 s and the 1/2 ton pick up share the same king pins.

I felt a huge relief to get mot and not worry about holiday deadline. phew!

I did the king pins today. Far easier to take off the axle and drift them out on a large block (an old sledge hammer) took four hours in total,one pin drifted out very easily the other wasn't too bad.
The thrust bearings were worn I reused the pins and bushes as there was no play in them.

How do you manage to
How the axle steady?
Hold the drift steady?
And swing the hammer straight please?

And what do you use as an anvil please?

I used an old heavy sledge hammer as I said in my post,and a heavy lump of wood as an anvil

To drive the pin out I used an old knackered T bar spanner which is just smaller than the king pin.

My assistant was there to keep an eye. As for how to swing a hammer and hold the punch etc,nearly fifty years of experience comes in handy.(Sorry if that sounds big headed but if I didn't know how to swing a hammer by now I never will).
