by all means you can say that, just dont complain to us when you buy one and find its slower, got less pulling power, locks the rear wheels at the slightest opportunity, seems to have been built from second grade plastic everywhere, generally starts falling to pieces inside, and the only way you'll get one with good rear doors is to buy a new one :P

that said, they do make a good source for donor parts for a transit  ... mine has the rivet in side windows from an LDV 400 and the spare wheel carrier from one mounted under the rear end :D

and i guess you could argue they are cheaper for spares as there are soooooo many of them in the breakers yards

You only need two tools in life: WD-40 and Duct Tape. If it doesn't move and it should, use WD-40. If it moves and shouldn't, use the duct tape.

Not necessarily.

Somebody could very well tell us anytime soon which Leyland van has an axle that will fit a Transit. ;)

A friend of mine has a mk1 twin wheel and has had a 2.78 falcon center fitted

They just cut the axle tubes off the transit diff and weld them to the falc center

I was told those jobs are nowhere near as strong as original Transit axles (something to do with 2 and 4 "spiders"? as well) and wear out very quickly, they charge a lot of money for those conversions and keep in mind my Transit is a 3 ton camper and that's the minimum weight it carries all the time.

The 4 pinion falcon diff will take 600 odd hp so it wont matter if your van weighs 10 ton your engine will never have enough power to hurt it

As for the method used to join the tubes to the housing it is the same as ford use with the transit housing and the factory transit axles are still used

You also have a choice of ratios from 2.78 to 4.11

My friends diff cost $1200

"4 pinion"?

I thought all diffs had just one pinion and crown.

Is that the one they call a 9" diff?

without LSD

no diffs are either 2 or 4 pinion, not the main drive pinion gear but the so called "spider" gears

Like if you where to pick up your factory ford transit repair manual and look up the decription for the 175 diff it will say that its a 4 pinion split differential case

The Borg Warner or BTR 78 series diff found in every thing from xy falcs to the current model BF ute is the diff im talking about
the later diffs are extremly strong

a 9" will take 1000+ hp

Is an engineer's certificate needed to make those alterations?
